Christmas Window Contest 2016

Christmas sceneDear Merchants,

As you all know Christmas is fast approaching.  As always, we again invite you to join in the spirit of the season by decorating your storefronts/windows.

The criteria for judging is the same as always. The judges will be looking for creativity, originality and adherence to the theme.  The judging is scheduled for December 1, 2016 between the hours of 5:30 and 7:00 pm. This year we have four (4) judges.  One of the judges is from New York. He and his family will be visiting family here and he has graciously accepted our invitation to be a guest judge.  Another judge comes to us from Virginia.  The remaining two judges are local (one residing in Littleton while the other resides on Lake Gaston).

The theme this year opens up a vast arena for creativity.  After polling the judges and getting their input it was decided the theme is “Christmas – Past and Present”.  Use your imagination, work magic, but most of all, have fun.

For more information or if you have any questions please feel free to call 586-7118.

As always we thank you for your participation in this event.

DOT Work on Main Street/Hwy 158

Meeting gavel

DOT reps and the company who will be doing the work met during the week to firm up work to be done on the sidewalk/drains along 158 beginning at BB&T Drive Through extending to the driveway at Grandpa’s Kitchen.  This week (November 14-18, 2016) workers will be in the area filming, measuring, etc. to set up for work to begin.

Actual work is to begin the Monday of Thanksgiving week (November 21-26, 2016).  Grandpa’s will be closed for the week and the crews plan on beginning at Grandpa’s working in sections down to BB&T.

The project is expected to take two weeks. The sidewalk will be replaced.  A handicap entry will be in the sidewalk near the BB&T.  Work on curbs and drains will occur and “bicycle grates” will replace those currently in the area.

The concrete will be removed, broken up and put in the area along the railroad bed (note this will be monitored). Glass will be protected by large heavy tarps during the construction.

Merchants in the affected area have been notified and the work plan should minimize their inconvenience.

Questions can be directed to the Town Street Commissioner.

Public Notice – Abandoned Car Ordinance

Meeting gavelThe Town of Littleton is aware of several Abandoned / Junked / Nuisance Vehicles, as described in Chapter 94 as amended in the Town of Littleton Town Ordinances, are located throughout the town.

These vehicles (Definitions below) are a violation of Town Ordinances and the vehicle owners, and land owners where the vehicles are located, are subject to civil and criminal penalty should the vehicles remain in their current condition.

If any vehicle as described above is located within the town limits and is not removed within 30 days of the sending of this notice, procedures will be taken to cite the responsible parties and, if necessary, the vehicles will be removed at the owner’s expense.

Anyone receiving a letter at the end of those 30 days stating they are a responsible party has a right to appeal that decision before a magistrate by notifying the Town Clerk in writing.  If you wish to appeal the decision after a vehicle has been towed the same process applies.

If the town removes a vehicle which you are responsible for, the following conditions must be met before it can be released:  Proof of ownership must be provided, towing and storage fees must be paid (according to the towing companies policies), and the vehicle may not be placed so as to continue to violate the conditions of Chapter 94 of the Town Ordinances.

We at the Town of Littleton appreciate any and all cooperation with this matter.

Yard Debris Pickup for Late October

Yard waste collection will begin October 31st, 2016. This does not include loose leaves.

Yard Waste collection is contracted out by the town and delays are caused by the contractor’s work schedule and ability to collect and dispose of the debris when the ground is muddy or due to weather.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
